The National Dental Practice Based Research Network - Dental Implant Restoration Registry (DIRR)

The dental implant restoration registry (DIRR), a study within the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (National Dental PBRN), is investigating the parameters associated with the success of implant therapy, as well as the rate of prosthetic and biologic implant complications. We expect that the results from this study will significantly impact the clinical practice of implant dentistry and the quality of care provided for the patients, as well as create an opportunity for subsequent additional targeted studies to support diagnosis driven therapy strategies. We are in the process of welcoming practitioners to the study who will recruit their patients undergoing restorative procedures on recently placed implants, with a target enrollment of 2000 implants nationwide in this 3-year observational study. To learn more or to participate contact our research node coordinator, Vicky Thomas, at victoria_thomas@urmc.rochester.edu

Free Samples for Health (FreSH) is a study within the NDPBRN that is enrolling 50 Northeast and Midwest practices to recruit 1200 patients to test the effectiveness of Nicotine Replacement Therapy sampling (NRTS) in dental practices. NRTS refers to providing all smokers, regardless of their current interest in quitting, with free samples of over-the-counter NRT products and brief use instructions. NRTS has been shown to increase quit attempts, smoking cessation self-efficacy, and positive attitudes toward NRT. Dental settings are an ideal fit for NRTS because NRTS could easily be combined with Ask-Advise-Refer (AAR), and providing samples of oral care products is routine and universal in dental care settings. To learn more or to participate contact research node coordinator, Pat Ragusa at pat_ragusa@urmc.rochester.edu
