Job responsibilities: - Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, root planing, and polishing to remove plaque, calculus, and stains. - Conduct patient assessments, including reviewing medical history and screening for oral diseases like periodontal disease and oral cancer. - Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and use of appropriate dental products. - Take and develop dental X-rays to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. - Administer fluoride treatments and apply sealants to help prevent cavities. - Assist the dentist during dental procedures and provide post-operative care instructions to patients. - Sterilize dental instruments and maintain cleanliness of the dental operatory according to OSHA standards. - Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including documentation of findings, treatments, and patient progress. - Perform preliminary dental charting and recording of periodontal conditions. - Collaborate with the dental team to create a positive and supportive environment for patients. - Willingness to learn and adapt to new dental technologies under doctor's guidance/supervision, including: - Digital scanning for impression-free models. - Laser treatment for soft tissue management. - Local antibiotic therapy for treating periodontal disease. - Provide exceptional patient care and maintain a professional and compassionate attitude. Qualifications: Valid NY state dental hygienist license. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to ongoing education and skill development.
