The hygiene team has six main areas of focus: preventive care, periodontal therapy, patient education, patient experience, treatment acceptance, and retention. We believe in preventing cavities and gum disease before it happens. We know that a well-informed patient makes healthy decisions; that’s why we use visual aids to discuss the link between oral and systemic health and speak in language and metaphors that patients can understand. When it comes to oral hygiene, we don't lecture; when patients collaborate on a plan for their homecare, we know they are more likely to stick to it. We measure periodontal health by recording probing depths over 4mm, and our hygienists collaborate with our dentists to arrest disease, and restore health. Lastly, the most important piece of the puzzle is the relationships we create with our patients. Responsibilities include: Maintaining Excellence in Education and Training Performance Optimization by adhering to diagnostic protocols and achieving case acceptance through effective communication skills Supporting the retention of our patients by reappointing patients Leadership through Extraordinary Patient Care Job Summary: Duties/Responsibilities: The Dental Hygienist will clean teeth and examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. The position also educates patients on oral hygiene, takes x-rays, and applies fluoride or sealants. Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums using dental instruments. Examines gums using probes to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease. Feels lymph nodes under the patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate the presence of oral cancer. Applies fluorides or other cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay. Takes diagnostics including models, 3D scans, perio charting, and intraoral photographs Records and reviews patient medical histories. Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist. Maintains dental equipment and sharpens and sterilizes dental instruments. Provides clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public. Required Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of general principles of dentistry and advanced knowledge of dental hygiene.
