Course Description

Zirconia and lithium disilicate are amongst the most common materials used in modern restorative dentistry, for both natural teeth and implant prosthesis. In the last years, an increasing number of studies provided guidelines for a rational use, giving advantages and limitations of a specific material and taking into account their mechanical, optical and biological properties. Manage the process of bonding and cementation is also extremely important to the long term success. This presentation highlights material selection in fixed prosthodontics based on the clinical scenarios and specifically defines protocols with relevant research.

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss how to select the restorative material based on a specific clinical application

2. Highlights the different approaches available today and specifically defines protocols with clinically relevant research

3. Outline pitfalls to avoid in managing the cementation and bonding process of these restorations

Dr. Davide Romeo attended Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy) where he earned his undergraduate dental degree (Summa Cum Laude) in 2005 and a PhD in New Techniques in Implant Dentistry and Prosthetic Rehabilitation in 2010. The desire to expand his knowledge brought him to complete a one-year Program in Periodontics at New York University (Chairman: Dr. D. Tarnow).

After working in Milan for several years, in 2016, he relocated to the United States and earned a degree in Prosthodontics and also a Masters in Dental Sciences at the University of Rochester.

His background in periodontics, prosthodontics, and implant dentistry allows him to offer his patients comprehensive solutions, offering both surgical and restorative parts of dental treatment; ranging from single tooth implants to full mouth rehabilitations, while working cooperatively with colleagues of various specialties.

From his early days as a dental student, he has always been involved in research in the field of full-arch implant prostheses, digital dental technologies and dental materials. Dr. Romeo has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals, wrote book chapters and co-authored a book with his mentor, Prof. Agliardi. He currently practices implant dentistry, prosthodontics & periodontics in New York City.

Monroe County Dental Society is a component of 7th District; recognized as a CERP provider through NYSDA.  Continuing Education (CE) credits are awarded for all lectures that meet the NYSED requirements. One hour of credit is awarded for each 50 minutes of presentation attended. To verify attendance, zoom will record and report time logged in and out. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.
